Breckenridge Ski Area
World-class
skiing, that’s the Breckenridge ski area. I once dreamed of becoming
a world-class skier. That’s right, Bob the ski bum, that'd be me. That’s
one reason I came to the Breckenridge ski area. Located less than two hours
from the Denver International Airport, Breckenridge’s 5.3 square miles
of land donning its winter white greets nearly 1.5 million skiers a year.
And with one of the best ski schools in the country, if you share my dream
you’ve hit the bull’s eye. One of the many resort’s expert
instructors will be happy to set you up with lessons. Before you know it,
your skis will be testing the bounds of each of the other three ski areas
in Summit County: Copper Mountain, Keystone, and Arapahoe Basin—all
with unbelievable snow, all itching to be churned, waiting to fulfill your
dream. As for me, well I never did become that world-class skier, but I’m
proud to say that I’m the best skier that I can be because I’ve
experienced the Breckenridge ski area. I love the sport, the clean brisk mountain
air filling my lungs each day I step out my door. And so will you.
Recent improvements, thanks to a multi-million dollar investment by Vail Resorts International, have combined to make Breckenridge Ski Resort what it is today, with 165 acres of new terrain to include seven new intermediate trails, with the addition of new, first-class high speed ski lifts to serve them.
Of course, I didn’t start right out gracing the moguls or doing aerial maneuvers off the jumps. That’s because Breckenridge Ski Resort’s 2208 acres of terrain offers versatility and caters to all levels of skiers. Yep, all ages and abilities should be able to enjoy themselves and find plenty of places to keep them dancing on snow. If you’re a beginner you will enjoy 13 percent the runs, intermediate—32 percent, and 55 percent is roughed up by the experts, don’t worry the resort’s cutting edge grooming equipment will keep the snow cover loose. In total Breckenridge ski area boasts 146 runs, and 27 lifts making it easy to navigate the mountain and try new spots. From beginner to expert, there something for everyone at the Breckenridge ski area.
If you’re a fan of snowboarding, you’re in luck there too, because Breckenridge is known to have been one of the first major ski resorts to open its facilities to powder surfing 20 years ago. Today, two major terrains serve the young and the reckless snowboarder within us all.
I can’t imagine Bob the Ski Bum his fellow comrades tiring of the snow-spangled sport of the ski, but there other ways to enjoy the offerings of lady Breckenridge too. Like sleigh riding, hot air ballooning, ice skating, snowmobiling, snowshoing, and helicopter skiing. From romance to roughing it in the great outdoors beneath the sunny bluebird skies, the Breckenridge Ski Area in all its sport and ware delivers the best.
